OVERSIZE have already turned the heads of many tastemakers in the UK scene, with rave reviews and rapt attention from Dan P Carter, Alyx Holcombe, and Jack Saunders at BBC R1. In their short time as a band OVERSIZE have already performed at Outbreak Festival, and supported Militarie Gun, Higher Power, Fiddlehead, Boston Manor, and many more.  

Although still very much in their infancy, the group - who formed in the South West of England - have already developed a fully-formed, personal sound. Elements of post-hardcore, alternative metal, shoegaze and emo combine to deliriously heady effect. While the band don’t shy away from their love of alternative 90’s music, and a love of HUM, Smashing Pumpkins, Deftones, and Pixies, OVERSIZE have very little interest in being sonically tied to the past. 

The bandmembers' shared experience of writing and playing live together has found them carving out their own space within the alternative scene, in just a handful of years. Exploring the vast range of dynamics within their music, songs drift between atmospheric textures to loud fuzzy riffs, magnifying and complimenting the personal and often venerable vocals.

On 'Fall Apart', vocalist Sam McCauley comments: "'Fall Apart' lyrically shifts around the themes of grief and heartbreak. Reflecting on a moment of disconnect. How you can feel numb and soulless whilst still yearning for a connection, for love. The basic want of someone to hold you and tell you it’ll be just fine, while simultaneously isolating yourself from the world."

Marjana comments on working with Jim Grey: "I'm so thrilled with this collaboration - Jim has one of the most beautiful voices and hearing him on my song and singing with him was such a special experience."

On the single and video, she continues: "The song in my true fashion is about a dead girl haunting her abusive former lover and gradually driving him insane (something I definitely will do when I die) and the music video was produced in collaboration with the wonderful Cinebuds in The Netherlands over a very stormy summer weekend. Jim's footage was kindly provided by the old friend Adrian Goleby. 

"Overall I think it's my favourite music video i've ever done and what a joy it is to be able to work with so many incredibly talented people."

Marjana Semkina has also announced a one off show, performing songs from Sirin and more. This will be held at St Matthias Church, Stoke Newington, on 1st November 2024. The evening will be headlined by her band Iamthemorning, and her bandmate Gleb Kolyadin will also perform a set of his solo work.

Marjana's live band features Liam McLaughlin on guitar and bass, Lulu de la Rosa on keys and Evan Carson on drums and percussion.

Sirin is a journey of dark stories and fairy tales, told with Marjana’s uniquely captivating voice, on a foundation of detailed musical arrangements. However there is a prevailing darkness and grief, inspired by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with the first single about by the protests.

On the album Sirin, she continues: "Sirin is a mythical creature from ancient Slavic mythology, half-bird half-woman, she's a harbinger of bad luck and death, and it's believed that if you meet Sirin a big catastrophe will happen - except in case with the events surrounding this album it's already happened. Sirin cries and mourns for humankind, and nothing can be more appropriate in this day and age. Sirin is one of very few creatures that can travel between worlds - a world of gods of light, a world of dark deities (in some versions an alternative to the underworld) and a world of mortals. This felt appropriate because the album is quite diverse in sound and some might think parts of it sound happy, but the subject matter is almost always quite morbid, which creates a contrast that I enjoy.

"I was never very political and I always tried to keep my art within the realms of lore, literature and imagination. But when events like the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine happen, it is impossible - and I'd even say, unforgivable - to stay silent and do nothing. Thankfully being based in the UK I feel rather safe speaking out against the current regime and I do have a platform that I can use to try and show the world that Russians disagree with the actions of the Russian government, and there are so many of us that only wish for this to be over. I'm just trying to show it in the most artistic way I can muster."

Now permanently based in the UK, Marjana has been an active campaigner against the Russian occupation in Ukraine and has raised thousands of pounds via her activities to support the victims of war. She will continue her work, including selling a number of a limited run of handwritten lyrics from Sirin, with the money going to Ukrainian charities. Acts punishable by 15 years imprisonment should she return home.
 
Marjana is joined by an array of world class musicians (detailed below), which includes two very special guest vocal performances from Jim Grey (Caligula’s Horse) and Mick Moss (Antimatter).

Known for her work as the vocalist of prog duo Iamthemorning, self-exiled Russian Marjana has forged a successful solo career with two critically acclaimed solo releases: her 2020 debut solo album Sleepwalking, and 2021 follow-up EP Disillusioned.
 
Marjana has previously collaborated with many incredible artists, including The Flower Kings, Jordan Rudess, Blackbriar, as well as Anna Murphy with their Maer project. Combined with her work in Iamthemorning, her experiences have enabled her to become one of the most unique and exciting solo artists in the progressive world today.

Drawing influence from Biffy Clyro, Reuben and Thrice, Your Life is Over Now... is a much more lyrical body of work than Bicurious’ previous material, as the band tread new sonic ground. Thematically, the album explores the various facets of the idea of family - including Bicurious' own fans, who crowdfunded over €9000 to help make the record.

On 'Monday Afternoon', guitarist/vocalist Taran Plouzané comments: “Monday Afternoon was part of the first few vocal-led songs we wrote for this album. It's about feeling like a waste of space, not really having any life prospects, needing to grow up, cop on, but not knowing how to do so. I like the contrast between the upbeat nature of the song, its major tonality, and the bleak, relatively depressing lyrical content. It almost emphasises the lack of direction the protagonist is feeling. It's like "I'm such a waste, I might as well sing a happy song about it, because what's the point". 

"We actually almost dropped this song from the recording plan, because it was one of the oldest out of this batch of tunes, and I guess we were a little bored of it, or didn't think it was as good as the others. However, when we started working on pre-production with Tom (Peters), Monday Afternoon became one of his favourites from the album. Through pre-production and the recording process, we gave the song a freshness that made us fall in love with it again."

Bicurious are Gavin Purcell (drums) and Taran Plouzané (guitar/vocals); a confused, loud two-piece from Dublin, Ireland. Known for riff sing-alongs, grooves that open up mosh pits and get heads banging, and the undeniable chemistry between the two remarkable musicians, Bicurious have taken their captivating live show across Europe for the last seven years.
 
Bicurious juxtapose spacey and rhythmic with heavy and delirious. They build wide, engaging soundscapes that sway between math-rock riffs, post-rock progressions and noisy breakdowns, while keeping a strong focus on catchy hooks. The band’s songs have been known to feature vocal samples from political figures, aiming to bring to light social injustice in Ireland and beyond.
 
Formed in 2016, Bicurious released their debut singles 'Sugar Beats' and 'T.O.I' in 2017, followed by their debut EP I'm So Confused - crowdfunded by fans via a fundraising campaign and a sold-out fundraiser gig. Released in 2018, Bicurious celebrated with a sold-out show at Whelan's, Dublin. The lead single from the EP, 'Sleep', has clocked up over three million streams on Spotify.
 
In 2019 Bicurious released the single 'I Don't Do Drugs, I Just Sweat a Lot', supported with UK and Ireland tours, and festival appearances at Knockanstockan, Vantastival, Electric Picnic and more in summer 2019. With momentum continuing, Bicurious' debut album (re)constructed was unveiled in July 2021, to critical acclaim from press and fans alike, including Metal Hammer, Prog Magazine and GuitarWorld.

(re)constructed thematically follows a timeline of events highlighting the members’ dramatic life changes in the three years leading to the release. The aftermath of the album release saw Bicurious perform at ArcTanGent festival in 2022 and 2023, Portals Festival and The Great Escape to name but a few. 

And now to 2024, with new label home Big Scary Monsters and second album Your Life is Over Now... The record, which was created over 18 months, three countries and five recording studios is testament to just how far this special, deliriously raucous duo, have come.

Founded in Berlin by brothers Felix and Paul Vogelgesang, this metalcore act VIANOVA emerged from their shared vision of creating authentic, emotionally-driven music when they relocated to the city in 2014. The lineup solidified in 2017 with the addition of vocalist Alexander Kerski. Between 2015 and 2019, they released a five-track EP and two singles, building their presence in the German live music scene while navigating lineup changes.

Now back with fresh music, VIANOVA push their sound even further. This new chapter aims for a raw, fierce, and dynamic approach in both mixing and songwriting. Influences from genres outside metalcore - such as soul, jazz, R&B, and 80's synths - reflect their commitment to breaking genre boundaries. Accompanying this sonic evolution is a vibrant visual transformation, characterised by a focused and youthful energy that injects fun into a metalcore landscape often perceived as stagnant.

The first single from this new writing cycle, titled 'Más Rápido' is an energetic and upbeat track that seamlessly blends the band’s old and new styles. Lyrically, it explores themes of modern working culture and burnout, addressing the pressures of contemporary life. The track was mixed by their producer, Leon Schmidt, and mastered by renowned engineer Jens Bogren, providing a warm, dynamic edge to VIANOVA's evolving sound.

During the 2020 pandemic, VIANOVA reinvented their musical and visual identity, evolving their sound with the arrival of bassist Raoul Zillani. This new phase embraced a more technical, aggressive, and imaginative style, culminating in their EP Looking For... and the follow-up, ...A Way Out, released in 2023. These efforts garnered international attention and led to management by Lukas Magyar (Veil of Maya) in mid-2023. The band has since performed extensively across Germany, solidifying their position as a rising force in the metalcore genre.

Within just a year ALT BLK ERA have established themselves as one of the most unique and exciting new alternative acts today, winning over audiences at major festivals including Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds, and opening for artists such as Tom Morello, Lord Of The Lost and many more. On Rave Immortal, Nyrobi comments: "You might not notice on a first listen that this album is about my hidden disability that is a result of chronic illness that took hold during my teens and left me bed-ridden for years. I take the listener through the shadows and share the pain of abandonment I felt, and the solace that I found in my younger sister's unwavering support.

"This part of the album is so painful for me and at the same time it feels beautiful because it shows my sister by my side, every step of the way; through each emotion and every story. I wouldn’t have been brave enough to share this part of me without Chaya and the track 'Come On Outside' is a beautiful reflection of her.

"But we don’t stop there! The album then captures the defiant energy that grew within us, as I became more able. The songs show us crashing through the imposed barriers and boldly claiming spaces that we were once excluded from. As the songs transition into a dreamscape, they delve into the exploration of relationships; the clash of personalities when fitting into a new friendship group and the dangerous mind of an infatuated person who is scarred by illness and years of isolation.

The rebellion then builds as we begin to host wild celebrations, fiercely defending our joy after so many years of imposed restriction. Chaya continues: "This album starts as a deeply personal story of the physical and emotional pain that my sister went through when she first became ill. I was about twelve at that time. It was during the pandemic so it was a time of worry and isolation for me also but as Nyrobi slowly became more able to communicate, we spent every minute that she was awake together. I would sit in her room and contribute to her creations whilst she wrote song after song after song. From my more introverted perspective, the calmer songs reflect my nature, so 'Straight To Heart', 'Come On Outside' and 'Run Rabbit'. However,  I’ll ride-or-die for my big sis, so when it’s time to be defiant or to be rebellious, or when it’s time to scream, I’m right there too. This is what the album is about for me - our bond, that also respects who we are as individuals."
