MUSHROOMHEAD reveal dark new single 'We Don't Care' ahead of album release

The wait is almost over - American masked metal masters MUSHROOMHEAD will release their ninth studio album, Call The Devil, this Friday, 9th August 2024 via Napalm Records. In celebration of this week's album release and their European tour kickoff, the band has revealed their ultra-dark third single, entitled 'We Don't Care'. The track proves to be a future live favourite with its chanting chorus and earworm hook.

30 years into their groundbreaking history, MUSHROOMHEAD shows no sign of slowing down, proving innovative without losing sight of their trademark sound and imagery.

Returning after a 12 year hiatus, longtime guitarist Dave "Gravy" Felton – who performed on several of the band’s biggest albums and is credited as a primary songwriter on classic anthems like 'Along The Way', 'Sun Doesn’t Rise' and 'The Dream Is Over' – contributes his trademark skills to two Call The Devil album tracks. The album once again features production by band mastermind/drummer Steve "Skinny" Felton, as well as the return of Matt Wallace (Faith No More, 3 Doors Down) on mixing, also recognised for his work on MUSHROOMHEAD’s iconic album XIII. The album is also the band’s first to feature mastering from Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Epica, Arch Enemy).

Bursting with ominous intensity, album opener 'Eye To Eye' launches with warning sirens and a grooving riff provided by Gravy, proving the band wastes zero time with filler on Call The Devil. Eclectic tracks like the emotive, surprisingly jazzy anthem 'Emptiness', dramatic carnival creeper 'UIOP (A Final Reprieve)' and haunting 'Hallelucination' showcase the more experimental side of MUSHROOMHEAD, while heavy burners such as the gripping 'Prepackaged', charging and melodic 'Hideous' and aggressive drum-forward 'Torn In Two' cement the band’s lauded metal renown. Featuring guitar work and writing from Gravy, the winding, dark 'We Don’t Care' proves to be a future live favourite with its chanting chorus and earworm hook as vocalists Steve Rauckhorst and Jackie LaPonza split leadership duties. Call The Devil brings the cinematic, signature style of musical mastermind and bassist/keyboardist Ryan "Dr. F" Farrell to the forefront, exploring piano-driven balladic auras and compelling with eerily Vaudevillian three-part vocal achievements on songs like 'Decomposition', 'Grand Gesture' and 'Shame In A Basket', eventually veering into welcomed bizarre territory with album closer 'Doom Goose'.

Blind Guardian release 'The Bard's Song - In The Forest (Revisited)' single on album release day

Right on time with their show at 2024’s edition of Wacken Open Air later today (2nd August), German heavy metal legends BLIND GUARDIAN proudly present their new album. Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited includes a complete re-recording of their classic as well as a live celebration of 1992’s Somewhere Far Beyond, a landmark record in the history of the band.

Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited, which was recorded in 2022 and 2023, is a refreshing and powerful tribute to one of the most influential albums in German metal history. It paved the way for BLIND GUARDIAN’s international career that is still going strong today, and this re-recording impresses with all the class and quality these pioneers have been known and respected for, since forming as Lucifer’s Heritage three decades ago.

Today the band also release their live video for the revisited version of their most popular track 'The Bard's Song - In The Forest', with over 50 million streams. Watch: https://youtu.be/LqcenqDUA60

After three albums on No Remorse Records, Somewhere Far Beyond was the band’s major label debut via Virgin Records and opened the doors to the Japanese market resulting in a wider availability and presence on the global metal scene. After finding the right balance of speed, heaviness, melodies, drama and irresistible choruses on 1990’s Tales From The Twilight WorldSomewhere Far Beyond honed this approach to perfection, evolving further on a conceptual level and increasing BLIND GUARDIAN’s sonic range. On Somewhere Far Beyond the band experimented with keyboards, orchestrations, and folk elements, the latter manifesting in the group’s best-known song and live staple, ‘The Bard's Song (In The Forest)’, whereas other tracks like ‘Ashes to Ashes’, the rapid ‘Journey Through The Dark’ or ‘The Quest For Tanelorn’ connected well with previous mostly fast-paced albums, yet offered an additional push in dynamics.

Fast forward 30 years: prior to releasing the much lauded opus The God Machine in September 2022, BLIND GUARDIAN had been performing Somewhere Far Beyond in its entirety at Rock Hard Festival and Hellfest in Summer 2022 in front of tens of thousands of fans singing along to each track. Both shows were filmed and recorded professionally and aired via WDR and ARTE.

For the limited triple-disc-edition of Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited the Hellfest material was newly edited by the band’s long-time videographer Dirk Behlau using additional multi-cam footage. The idea of re-recording the album originated from the rehearsals for these shows as Hansi Kürsch explains in the detailed liner notes: “The original idea wasn’t to do a re-recording. When rehearsing for the anniversary gigs, corona hit and we couldn’t be certain that those shows would take place. We still wanted to celebrate the anniversary of the album and if we wouldn’t be able to include a live version, we initially thought we could at least record the rehearsals.

Not 100% satisfied with those rough versions, BLIND GUARDIAN decided to go all in, knowing the risk of being frowned upon by fans who consider re-recordings utter blasphemy. “We tried to recapture what we did in 1992 but compensate youth with skilful experience, though in a hungry way. We never discussed any major changes but with over 30 years of experience, and our current line-up, those ingredients already add a new flavour to it.” With the basic tracks recorded in a live setting, Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited is leaner and more focused on impact in terms of guitar arrangements yet retains all the harmonies and melodies essential to the original. “We finally ended up with this cool hybrid version”, André Olbrich adds. “We combined how we play the songs today, but at the same time, really tried to retain that speed metal spirit of the early 90s!

The album will be released as Limited Edition 3 Disc Digipak, which contains an additional 2022 live version of the entire album on a separate CD and a Blu-Ray disc with the anniversary sets at Rock Hard Festival and Hellfest 2022.

Somewhere Far Beyond Revisited will also be available as Gatefold LP with 24-page LP booklet and as jewelcase CD as well as digital album.

Seattle punks Filth is Eternal release cover of Hole's classic 'Violet'

US punks Filth Is Eternal have released a blistering cover of Hole’s trailblazing single, 'Violet'.

The dynamic Seattle trio match the ferocity of the original recording, adding an extra layer of intensity spurred on by frontperson Lis D’Angelo’s scorching vocals. Stream here: https://filthiseternal.ffm.to/violet

D'Angelo says, "We have always loved Hole, and ‘Violet’ was a song several of us were interested in covering. Love herself has always been fearless and uncompromising. The lyrics suggest resentment, violence, and the sexual exploitation of a person under the guise of romance. As the track moves forward, she harnesses her frustrations, finds a way to gain control, to break through, and does so with raw energy and power. It’s a song many can relate to, and we can sum it all up with the track, between the lyrics and the arrangement, is fucking brilliant and inspiring and an energy we wanted to tap into.”

'Violet' is the first release since Filth Is Eternal’s acclaimed album, Find Out, which was released Autumn 2023 via MNRK Heavy. The album highlights the band’s deep-rooted attention to songwriting and explodes with fresh ideas, heavy on hooks, and clandestine melody. Find Out marked a clear breakout release for FIE, not to mention a future staple for heavy music fans worldwide.

Find Out is the triumphant reawakening of this vital group. The new testament whips forth with the force of a breakthrough and is a clear undertaking of their own genesis with a deep awareness of themselves, their crowd, and the shared history between them. The band’s ground rules: immediacy must be prioritised; the songs should have the power to whip up a pit in under thirty seconds; they must be vital and exciting – all of which cuts through on 'Pressure Me', and first single 'Crawl Space'.

Using the talents of producer Paul Fig (Slipknot, AFI, Alice In Chains) while recording at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 and Dave’s Room, Find Out adds just enough spit polish in production to conjure the masses but still retains the dirt and grime necessary to remain congruous to the sound and fury within.

At the core of Filth is Eternal is the instrumental trio of Brian McClelland (guitar), Rahsaan Davis (bass), and Emily Salisbury (drums), who lean into bone-crushing death metal and crust riffage, precision-machined grind, and nitro-fuelled punk to create the nihilistic and galloping armoured vehicle that is FIE. When hard-pressed about specific bands and styles, the band avoids individual names in favour of movements, yet it’s clear that the darker, more complex side of hardcore is probably the most direct influence. Names ranging from Converge to Cursed may be the most prevalent while others such as Trap Them, Alice in Chains, Stockholm-style death metal, and even The Distillers come to mind for additional inspiration, melody, and tactical songwriting purposes.

Vocalist / lyricist Lis Di Angelo’s approach is rooted in grunge and extreme music; their visceral delivery sits comfortably on the fulcrum between raspy hardcore vocals and cogent melodicism, allowing a range of emotional depth and dynamics. In the worlds the band currently occupies, the dichotomy is refreshing and oddly original, adding a subtle melodic twist to the nihilistic footstomp.

On Find Out, each track is its own pipe bomb ready to ignite on the unsuspecting public, creating a sense of urgency and relating the band’s explosive message to an unabating soundtrack of punk-inflected ferocity. Embrace the oncoming tidal wave, changing of the guard, and new revolution from Filth is Eternal. Sound the reveille because one way or another, you’ll Find Out.

Winterfylleth launch new custom 'Green Cathedral' guitar pedal

Winterfylleth have launched their own custom guitar pedal via Technavolt. Named after their song of the same name, Green Cathedral is an atmospheric, dynamic reverb pedal, designed for, and with Chris Naughton (Winterfylleth, vocals & guitar) to add ambience and depth to the live sound of the band's performances.

The profile and tone of the Reverb is based on the clean / lead guitar sounds from the song of the same name, 'Green Cathedral' from their 2016 album, The Dark Hereafter.

Covering both sonic spaces of clean passages and pairing perfectly with high gain metal, it couldn’t just be an off the peg solution.

The onboard controls, 'Mix' and 'Dwell' are there to tailor a sound to the users tastes, both in terms of the ‘size’ of the reverb and also with how fast it dissipates (via the Dwell control). This is then allied to how much of the signal the user wants blended into the reverberation via the Mix control. For a small space room style reverb, dial the dwell down for a shorter decay, mix to taste.

If you want cavernous reflections that go on for days, crank the dwell and mix to get lost in the ether. This reverb has a subtle modulation to invoke a change in the sound reflections to liven the effect, when compared to often dull sounding larger reverbs.

The Green Cathedral has an internal volume trim pot to precisely match your dry signal – or to give it a boost for some ethereal passages. This reverb is made to complement the users rig and playing no matter the genre or gain levels.

The pedal will be limited edition, and the first 50 pedals will come signed by vocalist/guitarist, Chris Naughton

About Winterfylleth

British atmospheric black metal pioneers, Winterfylleth, emerged in 2006 and gained immediate attention with their first demo, Rising of the Winter Full Moon (2007). Their rapid rise in the metal underground caught the attention of Profound Lore Records, leading to a record deal and the release of debut album, The Ghost of Heritage, in 2008. This marked the beginning of their journey to international acclaim. With the release of their second album, The Mercian Sphere, under Candlelight Records in 2010, Winterfylleth solidified their position in the metal realm, propelling them to international success. Subsequent albums, including The Threnody of Triumph (2012), The Divination of Antiquity (2014), and The Dark Hereafter (2016), continued to showcase their musical evolution and storytelling prowess.

In 2017, Winterfylleth commemorated their 10 year anniversary with a tour and then in 2018 unveiled their sixth album, The Hallowing of Heirdom, a departure from their signature sound as they delved into acoustic folk music - a theme that had previously been explored to lesser extent on their other albums, but never as a full conceptual album. Drawing inspiration from ancient folklore, pastoral poetry, and early British customs, the album offered a unique and captivating musical experience. Their 2020 release, The Reckoning Dawn, made a significant impact, reaching no #75 on the UK Top 100 albums chart and claiming the #7 spot on the rock/metal charts in the UK. Winterfylleth's commitment to storytelling through music and their innovative fusion of metal with traditional folk influences continues to captivate audiences worldwide.

In late 2023, Winterfylleth were privileged to have a chapter dedicated to the history and impact of the band included in the landmark publication, Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult by Dayal Patterson. A key moment for the band that cements their status as a leading force in global black metal - within what is probably the most important document about the genre of all time.

Over nearly two decades, the band have shared stages with renowned acts such as Enslaved, Behemoth, Decapitated, Emperor, Gaahls Wyrd, Alcest, Cradle of Filth, Primordial, Gaerea, Panopticon and more, gracing festivals worldwide including Prophecy Fest, Inferno, Ragnarok, Roadburn, Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, Summer BreezeGraspop, and Bloodstock Open Air. Their music has garnered critical acclaim globally, earning them magazine covers and prestigious awards, including a Metal Hammer Golden God.

Future Palace release video for new single 'Decarabia'

German post-hardcore trio Future Palace have released a video for their new single 'Decarabia'. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album Distortion, due for release on 6th September via Arising Empire.

Check out the video for 'Decarabia' here: https://youtu.be/oEyc4vg40Pk

Stream 'Decarabia' here: https://arisingempire.com/decarabia

It is commonly said that shared suffering is half the the suffering - but is it really always that simple? Future Palace dedicate their new song 'Decarabia' to the relationships of people who are suffering from mental illnesses.

The picture the band paints of this difficult circumstance is engagingly complex and asks fundamental questions: How much can we help the loved ones around us when we ourselves are already dealing with so many of our own demons? How can we not be alone in our struggles when at the same time we see how it becomes too much for our counterpart?

“It's not just bad if you yourself lose joy in life. It hurts all the more when you find out that a loved person has to deal with it," vocalist Maria Lessing explains, reporting on experiences that come from her own life. "It's a struggle to try to support someone when you need all your strength to be able to function. But in the end you can resolve even such serious problems with work and growth and become happy together. In any case, I hope so.”

Musically, Future Palace show a completely new side with 'Decarabia'. The nostalgic and at the same time modern synths in the intro and chorus make the band's sound no less heavy, but give it a real danceable note. The trio creates hit potential that reminiscences of compositions by Electric Callboy without their lyrically ironic double entendres. The music video, again directed by Pavel Trebukhin, was filmed fittingly in an abandoned Soviet discotheque in Latvia on the border to Lithuania.

Future Palace's music has always explored internal struggles, and Distortion is the brutal climax of this approach. The album title, derived from the psychological term cognitive distortion, reflects a world where changing perceptions trap individuals in recurring pitfalls. Distortion addresses various mental illnesses and personal struggles, from ADHD to depression to narcissism. The band's third album is a powerful force of emotions, cycles, and cries of desperation, overwhelming listeners with its intensity.

The band's creativity shines as they tackle demanding topics with fresh perspectives. On Distortion, they build on their previous work by incorporating new elements, like orchestral interjections in 'The Echoes of Disparity', which combines brutal screams and chant-like passages to convey psychological struggle. 'Panic Paralysis' features a massive vocal motif with an arabesque touch, while 'They Take What They Want' dives into emotional depths, blending raw metalcore with gentle vocal passages and massive choirs.

Despite the album's emotional intensity, Distortion was created amid excessive demands. Produced by Julian Breucker and Christoph Wieczorek, known for their work with Annisokay, Beyond the Black, and Smash Into Pieces, the recording process was grueling. Singer Maria Lessing recorded the album with a root infection and after wisdom tooth surgery, adding stress but enhancing the songs' authenticity. Guitarist Manuel Kohlert notes that the album reflects the band's experience as a heavy touring band, capturing the feelings of being on the road and contemplating their existence.

Despite its challenges, Distortion carries a piece of hope. 'Decarabia' tells a bittersweet story about a depressed couple, while 'The Echoes of Disparity', featuring Charlie Rolfe of As Everything Unfolds, is militantly rebellious, addressing abuse of power and the oppression of women. Lessing emphasizes the importance of female support to convey the song's message loudly.

The album features the most powerful metalcore breakdowns meeting trembling darkwave beats, anthemic emocore refrains à la Bad Omens contrasted with sacred choirs, and the coldness of industrial clashing with the powerful emotionality of Sleep Token, making Distortion an album like a manifesto.

Jinjer release surprise new single 'Someone's Daughter'

Ukrainian modern progressive metal icons JINJER return with a surprise new single - their blistering song 'Someone's Daughter' out now via Napalm Records.

The track arrives with a thrilling music video, and is now available on all streaming services worldwide.

Watch: https://youtu.be/djsH7ngox_s
Stream: http://lnk.to/Jinjer-SomeonesDaughter

The surprise new song is only just a tease of what’s to come very soon from the unstoppable world of JINJER.

By refusing to conform to the heavy metal rulebook, JINJER have forged a sound that is so uniquely their own that it's hard to encapsulate. The ferocity of vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk combined with a sonic rollercoaster of chugging riffs, pulverising bass lines and intricate drums patterns has gained them over 300 million combined streams and views, making JINJER’s upcoming output some of the most anticipated in heavy music.

Over the past 15 years, JINJER have attained remarkable milestones, touring globally and captivating millions at prestigious festivals. They’ve headlined sold-out shows across Europe and North America, and have thrilled audiences in destinations like Dubai, Philippines, Türkiye, Japan and South Africa. As they continue their journey this year, JINJER are set to make a major impact on the music scene. The relentlessly hard-working outfit will kick off with appearances at several European festivals this summer, followed by a headline tour across North America. Additionally, JINJER will support Sepultura in Europe and conclude their tour with a headline run through Latin America.

Tatiana Shmayluk states: "'Someone’s Daughter' is an artistic attempt to cast the light on the inner world of women, who in various scenarios and circumstances, have had to choose a path that was historically made by men. In a world where women are often underestimated and overlooked, they are still powerful heroes who navigate hardship with strength and resilience, unapologetically becoming themselves and breaking barriers in the face of the challenges that face them. 'Someone’s Daughter' celebrates transition from naivety into wisdom, weakness into force, unwavering determination and fearlessness as our mothers, sisters, daughters and wives walk through adversity and fight for better change. These women are often forgotten but they have earned respect. They‘ve earned mine, that's for sure!"

Irish duo Bicurious release new single ‘Acrylic Fences’, announce new album

Dublin/Leipzig-based rock duo Bicurious are delighted to announce their second album Your Life is Over Now… due 4th October 2024 via their new home in Big Scary Monsters.

In celebration, the band have shared the first single ‘Acrylic Fences’; a powerful, raw and vulnerable rock song which attempts to put relationship struggles and communication breakdowns into words.

Drawing influence from Biffy Clyro, Reuben and Thrice, Your Life is Over Now... is a much more lyrical body of work than Bicurious’ previous material, as the band tread new sonic ground. Thematically, the album explores the various facets of the idea of family - including Bicurious' own fans, who crowdfunded over €9000 to help make the record.

On 'Acrylic Fences', guitarist/vocalist Taran Plouzané comments: “I think this is the best song we’ve ever written, and it has a very special place in my heart. For me it has everything - groove, raw emotion, riffs, everything. Thematically, the ‘Acrylic Fences’ refer to the walls that one can build around them in a relationship, and how narrow-minded one can become trying to break those walls down. As this is our first fully sung release, it’s really interesting to me how people might react to it, and whether the words can hit listeners for them to relate in their own way.”

Drummer Gavin Purcell states: “From what I remember, the main tom groove first came about the day after we saw Jamie Lenman at StrangeForms Festival last year. Our set was the following day, and we booked a rehearsal room that morning to freshen things up. We ended up jamming, and from seeing Jamie Lenman the night before, I naturally got inspired by the slightly swung groove of his song 'Hardbeat', which is a personal favourite of mine.”

On signing with Big Scary Monsters:

“We’ve released all of our music independently (with the help of Narrow Door Records) up until now, but this time we felt like the songs deserved to be pushed further. After having a few conversations with various labels, we started talking to Kev and Josie at BSM, and got the right feeling straight away. We’ve tried to build our network from the start by surrounding ourselves with people we trust and who truly believe in the project - Big Scary Monsters turned out to be just that and more.

“It's also very cool to be on a label which is home to some of our favourite artists such as
Jamie Lenman, Delta Sleep, Laura Jane Grace and Alpha Male Tea Party”.

The duo are heading out on a UK/Ireland in October and November to celebrate the release of the album. Catch them at one of the following dates:

Oct 15: UK Glasgow Hug and Pint
Oct 16: UK Sheffield Corporation
Oct 17: UK Manchester Star and Garter

Oct 19: UK Bristol Rough Trade

Nov 21: IE Dublin Grand Social

Bicurious are Gavin Purcell (drums) and Taran Plouzané (guitar/vocals); a confused, loud two-piece from Dublin, Ireland. They’ve built a loyal fanbase through extensive touring and have won over crowds both at home and abroad, establishing themselves as a recognisable force on the European rock scene.

Known for riff sing-alongs, grooves that open up mosh pits and get heads banging, and the undeniable chemistry between the two remarkable musicians, Bicurious have taken their captivating live show across Europe for the last seven years.

Bicurious juxtapose spacey and rhythmic with heavy and delirious. They build wide, engaging soundscapes that sway between math-rock riffs, post-rock progressions and noisy breakdowns, while keeping a strong focus on catchy hooks. The band’s songs have been known to feature vocal samples from political figures, aiming to bring to light social injustice in Ireland and beyond.

Formed in 2016, Bicurious released their debut singles 'Sugar Beats' and 'T.O.I' in 2017, followed by their debut EP I'm So Confused - crowdfunded by fans via a fundraising campaign and a sold-out fundraiser gig. Released in 2018, Bicurious celebrated with a sold-out show at Whelan's, Dublin. The lead single from the EP, 'Sleep', has clocked up over three million streams on Spotify.

In 2019 Bicurious released the single 'I Don't Do Drugs, I Just Sweat a Lot', supported with UK and Ireland tours, and festival appearances at Knockanstockan, Vantastival, Electric Picnic and more in summer 2019. With momentum continuing, Bicurious' debut album (re)constructed was unveiled in July 2021, to critical acclaim from press and fans alike, including Metal Hammer, Prog Magazine and GuitarWorld.

(re)constructed thematically follows a timeline of events highlighting the members’ dramatic life changes in the three years leading to the release. The aftermath of the album release saw Bicurious perform at ArcTanGent festival in 2022 and 2023, Portals Festival and The Great Escape to name but a few.

And now to 2024, with new label home Big Scary Monsters and second album Your Life is Over Now... The record, which was created over 18 months, three countries and five recording studios is testament to just how far this special, deliriously raucous duo, have come.

With 'Pulling Teeth', zebrahead highlight their thunderous energy and metal-infused punk rock. The track is as chaotic as it is catchy.

Singer and guitarist Adrian Estrella shares: “'Pulling Teeth' is like a punch in the face of energy and anger when you’re at your wit's end, reminding you that nothing's that bad.”

Drummer Ed Udhus adds: “Going to the dentist to get your teeth pulled sucks!! This song doesn’t!!”

zebrahead will release a new song every five weeks, culminating in the release of their I EP later this year, the follow-up to the III & II EPs, which were released in 2021 and 2023.

Refusing to slow down, zebrahead has been playing shows across the globe in between studio sessions. The first single from their upcoming EP, the fast-paced, aggressive, yet extremely melodic 'I Have Mixed Drinks About Feelings', was released in June 2024.

Within The Ruins unveil new single/video 'The Last Son' ahead of album release

'The Last Son' is the latest single from progressive deathcore outfit Within The Ruins. The track comes by way of the band’s seventh full-length studio offering Phenomena II, set for release on 23rd August through MNRK Heavy.

Comments guitarist Joe Cocchi, "In ‘The Last Son,’ a planet is destroyed, and Earth becomes home for one of the only survivors of that world. For some, he’s an alien that doesn’t belong. For others, he’s the saviour god they’ve been looking for. Whether they accept him, or reject him, he stays to protect the people he has adopted as his own.”

Guttural guitars groan through a haze on 'The Last Son,' while a hulking groove seesaws atop a percussive stomp. “Every song has a vibe,” Cocchi says. “This one is slower for us. ‘The Last Son’ also has Superman-inspired lyrics that worked very well.”

New album, Phenomena II, serves as the sequel to the band’s critically adored Phenomena full-length, which was released a decade earlier and has over 18 million streams to date.

Evolution drives longevity. Within The Ruins relentlessly pushes forward, incinerating complacency and innovating out of its ashes. The Western Massachusetts quartet — Joe Cocchi (guitar), Kevin McGuill (drums), Paolo Galang (bass, clean vocals), and Steve Tinnon (lead vocals) — razes convention with a sonic sensory onslaught anchored by polyrhythmic bludgeoning, head-nodding grooves, viscerally evocative vocals, and vivid storytelling. Their controlled chaos has resulted in tens of millions of streams (a rarity for acts this uncompromisingly heavy), packed houses on tour, and widespread acclaim courtesy of Alternative Press, American Songwriter, Loudwire, Metal Injection, Phoenix New Times, and many more.

Now, they continue to evolve on their seventh full-length offering, Phenomena II. “When you listen to us, we hope you feel like you found some fresh metal,” notes Cocchi. “After doing anything for a long time, it’s easy to get stuck in your ways. So, we always try to present something you haven’t heard before—and you aren’t going to get anywhere else.”

That’s what the band has done since their formation in 2003…

As the story goes, Cocchi and McGuill first linked up back in high school. They slogged it out locally for a long time, solidifying the initial core lineup of Within The Ruins with previous vocalist Tim Goergen. Building a devout fan base one gig and project at a time, they served up Creature (2009), Invade (2010), and Elite (2013), paving the way for the fan favourite, Phenomena (2014). Drawing its primary subject matter from Marvel and DC characters, the latter yielded two of their most popular anthems 'Gods Amongst Men' and 'Enigma,' which reeled in 4.7 million Spotify streams and 3.5 million Spotify streams, respectively. Following Halfway Human (2017), the musicians welcomed Steve Tinnon to the fold and ignited Black Heart during 2020. Highlighted by 'Deliverance,' 'Devil In Me,' and 'Black Heart,' the latter incited critical applause. American Songwriter praised how Within The Ruins takes deathcore to a new level with Black Heart.”

Tinnon’s addition had injected fresh fire into the band as they continued to write and record. In the meantime, Cocchi opened up his own brewery Tin Bridge Brewing where he and McGuill both work. Tin Bridge Brewing also serves as the band’s homebase, including their studio on site. With the decade anniversary of Phenomena looming, the musicians made a conscious decision to leap forward by looking back. The band wrote and recorded in their hub of Westfield, Massachusetts with Cocchi at the helm as producer once again.

We had written a handful of songs, and we were searching for inspiration,” recalls Cocchi. “We wanted to celebrate the tenth anniversary of Phenomena, because it was a pinnacle point of our career. I wrote a demo that reminded Steve of Phenomena. So, it was his idea to create Phenomena II. The styles really aligned in terms of the unique guitar effects and the themes where each track tells a story from a comic book character’s point-of-view.”
