PATRIARKH (formerly Batushka) announce new album and stream single / video

Polish icons PATRIARKH (formerly Batushka) have announced the release of their new concept album, ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ (Lat. PROROK ILJA), a masterpiece of arcane black metal, out 3rd January 2025 via Napalm Records.

Their label debut unveils eight new compositions and immerses the listener in the true story of Eliasz Klimowicz, the titular Prophet Ilja, set in the 1930s and 40s. Following the success of their critically acclaimed album, Hospodi (2019), and relentless touring around the globe, the new band looks towards a bright future. Firmly grounded in Eastern Orthodox traditions and music, PATRIARKH blends black and doom metal with haunting, dark religious concepts.

PATRIARKH have also unveiled their first single, 'ВЕРШАЛИН III' (Lat.  'WIERSZALIN III'), accompanied by a visually striking official music video, capturing an Orthodox mass. 'ВЕРШАЛИН III' showcases the band's signature blend of Orthodox sacredness with melodic folk instruments, infused with towering doom metal elements in which harsh vocals unite with rising choirs (featuring A. Strug & M. Maleńczuk). This crushing, colossal-sounding blend creates an instantly distinctive sonic experience.

PATRIARKH comment on the new single 'ВЕРШАЛИН III': “‘WIERSZALIN III’ is the first single that announces our new release PROROK ILJA (Lat.) and it probably best reflects the diversity and musical multidimensionality of this album. Just as the titular Prophet Ilja built New Jerusalem in Podlasie, we are building our new identity and showing our new musical face. Listen and share your impressions…“

PATRIARKH are currently on their Epic Prophecy For Europe tour in the UK, catch them on the following dates:

15.10.24 NI - Belfast / Limelight 2
17.10.24 UK - Glasgow / Slay
18.10.24 UK - Sheffield / Corporation
19.10.24 UK - Birmingham – Castle And Falcon
20.10.24 UK - London / Underworld
21.10.24 UK - Milton Keynes – Craufurd Arms
22.10.24 NL - Eindhoven / Dynamo
23.10.24 NL - Zwolle / Hedon

ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ details a true story that happened in the band’s home area of Podlasie, in the village of Grzybowszczyzna, in the 1930s and 40s. The album takes the listener into the world of Eliasz Klimowicz, the titular Prophet Ilja, an illiterate peasant who was the leader of the Orthodox Grzybowska Sect, active until the 1960s, cultivating and transmitting the history of the self-proclaimed prophet. PATRIARKH spread their gospel by using an arsenal of folk instruments, such as tagelharpa, mandolin, mandocello, hurdy gurdy and stringed dulcimer, and worked with a symphony orchestra and choirs to give their new creations the most organic and vivid feeling possible. As is trademark with PATRIARKH’s music, Orthodox sacredness is mixed with black and doom metal, now largely enriched with folk music, neo dark folk, and even film music. The band utilizes the entire palette of Orthodox music, venturing into the areas of Byzantine monody, liturgical chant and Russian polyphony, neatly adapting folk and liturgical melodies to their own style.

PATRIARKH comment on the new album: “With this new release, we are starting a new chapter in our history - not only is our name changing, but our music is also undergoing a natural evolution. The story on the album encouraged us to get out of our comfort zone, we reached for means that we had not used before in our music. Many of you will wonder if this is still black metal? Or is it even metal? Radio play, audiobook, theatre, film soundtrack, folk music, performance... All these terms will fit here. Some will hate, others will love...”

The lyrical side of ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ is an interesting mix of theatre and pastoralism. PATRIARKH uses fragments of texts from the theatre play Prorok Ilja and draws from the messages contained in the works of Włodzimierz Pawluczuk, combining it with folk and liturgical texts. On ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ, listeners can hear various languages – and Polish for the first time ever.

The album was recorded in January and May 2024 at Tall Pine Records (Behemoth, Zalewski, Afromental), Heinrich House (Behemoth, Vesania, Hate), Wem Studio (Kasa Chorych, Lukasyno, Cira) and Radio Białystok studio. Mixing and mastering was handled by Wojciech Wiesławski at Hertz Studi"Варфоломейo (Vader, Behemoth, Decapitated), and production was helmed by band mastermind and leading vocalist Bartłomiej "ВАРФОЛОМИЕЙ" Krysiuk.

“ПРОРОК ИЛИЯ is an album full of emotions, sentimentalism and folklore. It’s pastoral, lyrical, epic, multidimensional and multicolored, just like my Podlasie is multicolored,” says Варфоломей. Dive into the deepest of all shadows with this black metal masterpiece and join PATRIARKH on this intriguing ride.

German technical death metallers Burn Down Eden release new single/video 'Tears of Persephone'

Germany tech-death metallers Burn Down Eden have released their third single, 'Tears of Persephone', taken from forthcoming EP, Epiphany, set for release 6th December via Seek & Strike. This is the successor to their Dismal EP, which was released earlier this year.

Check out the 'Tears of Persephone' video here: https://youtu.be/6tWXVLBHGBw

Burn Down Eden state: "'Tears of Persephone' is a renarration from Greek mythology. It tells the story of the kidnapping of fertility goddess Persephone by Hades into the underworld from her perspective. Hades fell in love with Persephone, stole her and married her against her will. As a consequence, she had to spend the rest of her life in the underworld. Her mother Demeter started searching for her and after some minor setbacks, she finally understood what was going on. Out of pure rage, she started to burn all plants and threatened to destroy the human race. Hades released Persephone thereupon, but gave her something to eat as a goodbye gift. Unfortunately, Persephone ran into an ambush since the food bound her to the underworld. From then on, she had to return to the underworld for some months of the year and every time she did, nothing would grow on planet earth until she came back. So, this myth explains why we have seasons, but from a modern perspective you can also use this myth as a parable for forced marriages.

"The music and video supplements all that and shows Demeter's search for Persephone until she finally finds her in Hades. Well, we bend the truth a little bit here, since Demeter is played by
Pether. However, the mood from walking through corn fields, climbing mountains and finally making it to the underworld shines through. The three-four time is the base for all the melodies and harmonies that gives the song a very sad feeling. Listening to the chorus, you can really feel Persephone's pain.

"As a band we usually go full throttle with high tempo and technical song writing. But with 'Tears of Persephone' we show that heavy and feeling can be a nice combination."

Known for their explosive fusion of brutality, melodic harmony, technical prowess, and lyrical depth, Burn Down Eden's music serves as a stark mirror, reflecting the darker aspects of humanity and challenging listeners to confront the uncomfortable truths we create.

Now the band are poised to celebrate a remarkable milestone: their 10th anniversary in 2024. In honour of this significant occasion, they are set to unveil their highly anticipated new LP, Dismal Epiphany, in 2025. This ambitious project is thoughtfully divided into two parts. The first segment, titled Dismal, an EP released earlier this year in April, which features captivating videos for the first five tracks, showcasing the band's evolution and artistic vision.

The excitement continues now with this second part, Epiphany EP, which kicked off in August 2024, with the release of the evocative single 'Epistrophy' and follow up, 'Fake News For Breakfast'. As Burn Down Eden reflect on a decade of artistic growth and innovation, the anticipation builds: will this new release propel them to even greater heights?

Burn Down Eden add: "With the Epiphany EP, we pick up right where we left off with the Dismal EP released earlier this year. The technical and musical level is higher than ever. Epiphany has the same overall dark vibe as Dismal, but with a slightly brighter touch to it, which is why these specific five songs were chosen to be on this second EP. Together, the two EPs result in the desired full-length album.

“Once
Epiphany drops in full on Dec 6th, you’ll finally be able to listen to it as a full-length album, which was the way we originally envisioned. It feels like one thrilling flow from start to finish or you can listen to both EPs back to back. It doesn’t matter! In the end, what you’re having is a cauldron full of technical death metal riffs, neoclassical shredding, exotic scales, clever harmonies, groovy headbangers, lethal high-speed blasts and atmospheric counterpoint black metal layers, garnished with lyrics that show the ugly face of humanity. That’s what Burn Down Eden is all about!"

Pop Evil share cinematic video for 'What Remains'

Modern rock powerhouse Pop Evil have shared their cinematic music video for their recently released track 'What Remains', via MNRK Heavy. In the video, viewers will plunge into the dark, fragmented landscape of singer Leigh Kakaty's psyche, unraveling the thin line between self-identity and survival.

Watch the official music video, directed by Sam Shapiro, here: https://youtu.be/rJTzUO58xI4

Stream here: https://popevil.ffm.to/whatremainssingle

"The truest version of yourself comes from reaching within the darkest corners that you've kept hidden from the world," explains Kakaty. "It's in those shadows that you'll uncover the reasons for your transformation. I have evolved into something new. I am not who I used to be. I am what remains."

It's the dawn of a new era for Pop Evil, which the band promises will be its most sonically heavy. The track, with its thunderous riffs and rhythmic thrust, fulfills that promise.

Pop Evil first rose to international prominence with debut album Lipstick on the Mirror, featuring RIAA Certified Gold Single '100 in a 55'. After Kakaty famously tore up the band's major label contract onstage, Pop Evil signed with MNRK Heavy (formerly eOne Music). 2011's War of Angels debuted in the Top 10 of the Rock Albums chart and produced three Top 10 singles.

The band's 2013 album Onyx put them in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 for the first time and boasted three consecutive No.1 rock songs, two RIAA Gold Singles, and one Platinum Single 'Torn to Pieces'. Pop Evil's next release, Up, was the No.1 Independent Album in America and made it to #25 on the Billboard 200. It featured several Top 5 rock songs and a chart-topper with 'Footsteps,' which also went Gold.

Pop Evil's 2018 self-titled set included the No.1 hit and newly certified Gold single 'Waking Lions' and two other Top 10 hits. 2020's Versatile, meanwhile, scored two No.1 rock songs: 'Breathe Again' and 'Survivor'. In 2023, the band released its seventh studio album Skeletons, which spawned their eighth and ninth No.1 singles: 'Eye of the Storm' and 'Skeletons'.

Nuclear extreme metallers Cytotoxin unleash new single 'Hope Terminator'

After the release of their fourth full-length record Nuklearth in 2020, the nuclear quintet Cytotoxin strikes back with their first standalone single 'Hope Terminator'. The band continue their blast of a musical and lyrical concept, tackling the catastrophic incident at the Chernobyl power plant in 1986.

Watch 'Hope Terminator' here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfQy8L4eAMI

Listen to 'Hope Terminor' here: https://cytotoxin.bfan.link/hope-terminator

With blazing, precise, and ionizing fast instrumental work paired with a groove that packs a punch, 'Hope Terminator' narrates the dramatic tale of Pripyat’s evacuation. After the reactor exploded, the city’s residents were exposed to abnormal levels of radioactive radiation for 36 hours before authorities finally decided to evacuate within just four hours. Since then, Pripyat has remained a ghost town, a chilling reminder of the past.

On the night of April 26, 1986, an explosion at the Chernobyl power plant changed the course of the world.

Inspired by this catastrophe, the German death metal band Cytotoxin emerged in 2010, bringing a new level of intensity to the genre. By fusing technical and brutal riffs while thematizing the devastating effects of the reactor disaster, they quickly drew attention in the scene. Their debut album, Plutonium Heaven (2011), was a self-produced powerhouse, followed by their second record, Radiophobia (2012), which secured them a three-album deal with American label Unique Leader Records.

Cytotoxin quickly gained a reputation for their explosive live performances and razor-sharp precision on their instruments. Their third album, Gammageddon (2017), solidified their place in the tech death community, while their fourth album, Nuklearth (2020), showcased their versatility and songwriting capabilities. Following numerous European tours and major festival shows, Cytotoxin are set to make their U.S. and Canadian debut in November 2024 with their new single 'Hope Terminator' in hand.

Keep your gas mask ready, as the radiation spreads across the globe.

Industrial noise pop trio Tayne release new single ‘In This Trend’

Hailing from Dublin and now based in London, Tayne unveil their electrifying third single, 'In This Trend'. The new track masterfully blends post-punk and industrial elements, creating a powerful dancefloor anthem that is perfectly suited for iconic venues like Berghain, Torture Garden, Club Blood, and Cyberpunk, as well as any metal night around the world. Prepare to be captivated by a sound that pushes boundaries and ignites the night.

Watch the video for 'In This Trend' here: https://youtu.be/VrH3hNTP90U

Stream on all platforms:  https://insidejob.lnk.to/TayneITT

Matthew Sutton (vocals / bass) explains: “With a post-punk ethos in mind we wanted this song to feel like every pay off was another massive climb. The chorus is almost an anti chorus, it's angular and grinding.

"This song is a nauseating comparison to having an out of body experience watching yourself on a never ending loop, feeling hopeless and sick. So self-deprecating and always pushing that self-destruct button.”

‘In This Trend’ is the second video in a trilogy leading the visual narrative throughout the music directed by Leif Johnson, a member of London based video collective NEWD.

Sutton adds, “The artwork and music videos leaned into telling a story based on my own fathers conflicts with love. My dad being a family man, married with kids and then realising he was gay, coming out, navigating those tribulations and transforming his life and finding love and acceptance again. The 3 acts of the story were broken into each individual video. The Conflict, The Transformation & The Acceptance / Celebration.

"In This Trend - 'The Transformation' - Act 2 is a literal and philosophical transformation. Understanding the conflicts in his life and love, my dad made tough decisions to drastically change aspects of it. Being honest and true to himself as well as others carried so much weight and I’m sure it was painful for everyone involved. These necessary steps, although damaging to a life he had, were addressing those conflicts going forward and I think it’s a massive inspiration of just being honest, looking in that mirror and seeing what’s staring back at you.”

‘In This Trend’ showcases the dynamic partnership between Tayne and longtime collaborator Wayne Adams, known for his work with Green Lung and Pet Brick. This track is just one of many exciting collaborations Tayne has embarked on, joining forces with a diverse array of artists including Jesu, Cage Fight, Mastiff, Katie Kim & Poisonous Birds. Additionally, Tayne has shared the stage with influential acts such as HEALTH, Author & Punisher, and Greg Puciato of The Dillinger Escape Plan, further solidifying their presence in the music scene.

Tayne have also recently been announced for ArcTanGent Festival, the most popular British summer festival for math rock, post rock, progressive metal and experimental music alongside Rolo Tomassi, The Melvins, Between The Buried And Me, The Fall of Troy & more.

Aussie trio Ocean Grove share new single/video 'Last Dance'

A stirring and textural sonic wonderland, the brand new single 'LAST DANCE' from Australian Oddworld collective Ocean Grove takes an emotive and compelling turn ahead of the release of their upcoming new album ODDWORLD.

Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/uj28z20WyJc

ODDWORLD is due out on 22nd November via ODDWORLD Records in Australia and SharpTone Records for the rest of the world.

Pre-order ODDWORLD here: https://bfan.link/oddworld

Following on from the nu-metal ferocity of earlier singles 'FLY AWAY' and 'MY DISASTER', and the sleek yet propulsive melodics of 'RAINDROP', 'LAST DANCE' is a raw and riveting anthem, seamlessly balancing the vocal stylings of Dale Tanner and Twiggy Hunter alongside an emphatic performance from drummer and producer Sam Bassal.

“We knew this song was going to be a really important opportunity for storytelling," shares Dale Tanner"We felt the impact of how powerful the music was before any lyrics were written and this warranted an equally powerful motif. We all sat down in the bunkbeds of the farmhouse we had converted into a home studio, with a setting sun and determination to not leave the room until we had an arrangement of words proportionately epic. 'LAST DANCE' emerged as an apocalyptic symphony of sorts. It grapples with this idea of facing the death moment, whether that be of the planet or a loved one, and how we can be presented with one last opportunity for a loving embrace, and a conscious presence in that confronting reality. It’s the anthem for any listener to find solace and deeper meaning in the inevitable impermanence of everything.”

A collection of songs that captures the band's sonic roots as well as their fierce evolution over the years, ODDWORLD emerges instantly as the definitive Ocean Grove record; one that pays homage to the delectable diversity of 2017's The Rhapsody Tapes while also spanning their entire catalogue and steering into exciting uncharted territory. Produced by Ocean Grove's own Sam Bassal along with creative and performance contributions from studio members Luke Holmes and Running TouchODDWORLD is exactly as its title suggests: beautifully chaotic, sonically kaleidoscopic and wholeheartedly one-of-a-kind.

Ocean Grove are the enigma of the heavy music landscape, blending elements of nu metal, hardcore and alternative rock to create a sound that is uniquely their own i.e. Oddworld Music. An eclectic trio of misfits spawning from Melbourne, Australia, Ocean Grove recently announced their signing to SharpTone Records and the launch of their own label, and have risen to prominence in recent years with their dynamic and genre-defying approach to music. Wearing their DIY work ethic on their sleeve, the band have self-produced every release to date, including the upcoming 2024 studio album ODDWORLD.

From their 2017 debut album The Rhapsody Tapes, which debuted at #5 on the ARIA charts, through to their sophomore 2020 release Flip Phone Fantasy and 2022’s Up In The Air Forever, both also landing in the ARIA Charts Top 10, Ocean Grove have cultivated resounding acclaim for their groundbreaking craftsmanship and bold experimentation. And since their inception, the group have captivated audiences with their high-energy performances, visually striking aesthetics and infectious melodies, earning them a devoted legion of followers around the globe. Their unforgettable live show has found them in hot demand with tours alongside Limp BizkitAugust Burns RedCrossfaith, and Don Broco, and appearances at the likes of Download Festival Australia, Good Things Festival and UNIFY Gathering.

Ocean Grove recently supported Polaris on a massive regional Australian tour, and also just wrapped a huge headline run of their own over the weekend, supported by Japan's Paledusk and Sydney's Inertia. The band will next hit the stage at the upcoming Big Pineapple Festival in Woombye, Queensland.

About the new song, vocalist/guitarist Adrian Estrella says: "We’ve gotten so many fans telling us how our music has helped them. The truth is our fans have done the same to us, and we wanted to write a song that reflects that, we are all in this together as one.”

Guitarist Dan Palmer adds: “We worked on this song for weeks, writing and rewriting until it was so catchy that we couldn’t get the chorus out of heads! It was frustrating but damn we’re happy with the catchy results! We hope you are too!”

Refusing to slow down, zebrahead has been playing shows across the globe in between studio sessions. The quintet will release a new song every five weeks, culminating in the release of their I EP on 13th November, the follow-up to the III & II EPs, which were released in 2021 and 2023.

On the I EP expect more of what zebrahead do best, no-holds-barred, fast-paced, heavy-hitting genre-disrupting punk. Since their inception, zebrahead have sold over 2.5 million albums to date, earned a Grammy nomination, and currently has over 650,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.

Bassist Ben Osmundson shares: “Finally, the last EP of the III.II.I. EP series is here. Excited for everyone to be able to listen to them all in a row and realise where our heads have been since Covid and during Covid. Been a trying time for everyone and now it is time for fresh starts. We hope you enjoy them as much as we have making them. See you on tour.”
