Norwegian prog-metallers HYPERMASS announce EP and stream video

Norway’s HYPERMASS return with a captivating and dynamic new track, 'Headcase', which showcases the band’s eclectic, progressive metalcore style. It’s the perfect representation of what to expect from their upcoming, much-anticipated new EP, Apparition Day, which drops on 7th March via Seek and Strike.

Watch the 'Headcase' video here: https://youtu.be/esWvghMyQ5w

 Pre-order Apparition Day here: https://orcd.co/hypermassad

The band push the boundaries of convention showcasing their most riff-driven, catchy and ambitious work to date. Apparition Day promises a natural evolution where grooviness and intensity are dialed up to the maximum, solidifying their reputation as a force to be reckoned with in modern metal. It was mixed by Dave Otero (Aborted, Cattle Decapitation) and is a must listen for fans of Between The Buried and Me, Periphery and SikTh.

HYPERMASS state: "Our new EP, Apparition Day, has been in the works for quite some time and we are truly excited to bring it to life and show you all what we have been working so hard on. Musically, it is more of everything that defines our style. The grooves, the melodies and the variety have all been kicked up a notch from our last output. while we also delve into some previously unexplored territory. On this release, we incorporate elements from genres such as jazz, blues, electronic, etc. Our main goal is to always push our music forward no matter what, and it’s important to us that we keep things fresh while maintaining our signature sound. Lyrically, the EP is a natural step forward from our debut album, Empyrean, as we explore a lot of the same themes throughout. On this EP we wrote about the human condition in the modern world, and how our craving for convenience trumps our social and creative needs. With the rise of artificial intelligence, we see a lot of people embracing it with open arms without a shred of critical thinking as to what is going to happen if we let it. There are a lot more themes throughout, but that would give you an idea of what to expect. As our last album was more conceptual, this has five stand-alone songs with each song having its own clear identity both lyrically and musically.

"The EP’s first single, ‘Headcase,' was actually the last song we wrote for the EP. As I mentioned previously, we dug into some old ideas and decided to expand on a medley that had a real fun progressive, punky kind of vibe to it. It’s something we’ve never done before and we were very happy with the way it came out. Lyrically, it’s maybe the most simple, straight-forward song we have ever written, as we felt that it would fit nicely with the instrumentals. It’s about a guy going insane, and there are no “read-between-the-lines” kind of lyrics here. What you hear is what you get. We thought that this as a first single would turn some heads, mostly by just how catchy it is. It’s also kind of reminiscent of old 90’s metal like
Pantera, but with a few other elements thrown in there. That’s why we also wanted the music video to have that same vibe.

"The coalescing of styles has resulted in our signature sound. While a lot of modern metal bands seem to prioritize either heavy breakdowns or lightning-speed shredding, the most important thing to us is the riffs and the grooves. Our main goal while writing each song is to find new and exciting ways for it to groove. That has always been the centerpiece of our music, and we find ways to work around that to make it as interesting as possible using different layers and atmospheres. A lot of the time the vibe of our music is actually quite uplifting as well, unlike a lot of other bands within our genre.

"As the themes explore a lot of dark sides of the human psyche, we always feel it is best to balance that with a more upbeat approach to the music. We always love it when bands and artists have a contrast between the music and lyrics, as it makes the experience more multilayered and interesting. The most important thing to us is to keep the music fun and engaging, and if people wish, they can delve more into the themes of the lyrics on their own."

SENNA announce new album Stranger To Love and release new single 'High Note'

German metalcore band SENNA are proud to announce the release of their highly anticipated debut album, Stranger To Love, on 23rd May 2025 via SharpTone. Ahead of the full-length project, the band unveils its lead single, ‘High Note’, available to stream everywhere.

Watch the official video here: https://youtu.be/FYux-A07FTQ

Single link: https://bfan.link/high-note
Pre-order link: https://bfan.link/stranger-to-love

With Stranger To Love, SENNA present an intimate and deeply reflective collection of songs that explore the subtleties of human connection and personal growth. Guitarist Marcel Dürr, speaking on the album’s themes, shares:

"Stranger To Love is a collection of anecdotes from our own personal lives. These stories are not special in the sense that they are not extraordinary or unique to just us. They are not these once-in-a-lifetime experiences that change everything. They’re the kinds of experiences that happen quietly, in everyday moments. A conversation that didn’t go as planned. Feelings that linger longer than they should. Slowly realizing that things have changed in a relationship.

"What makes these stories meaningful is not that they are special, but that they are real. They happen to us, they happen to people everywhere, every day. Sometimes they happen in obvious ways, sometimes in ways that barely get noticed. They’re part of what it means to figure things out. In the end, these moments connect us, even if we experience them in our own way."

The first taste of the album comes with ‘High Note’, a track that dives deep into the emotional struggle of moving forward while wrestling with the past. Vocalist Simon Masdjedi describes the song as:

"In a world that demands constant motion, there’s an undeniable tension between the pull of escape and the weight of what’s left behind. Our latest track 'High Note' captures that struggle—a raw exploration of navigating life’s harsh realities and the fleeting comfort found in temporary highs. It’s a reflection on vulnerability, the search for refuge, and the relentless push to keep moving forward, even when the path feels uncertain."

SENNA have been steadily carving out their space in the alternative music scene with their raw lyricism and dynamic sound. With Stranger To Love, the band expands their sonic landscape, delivering a record that is both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Air Drawn Dagger announce debut album and release new single 'Apparitions' feat. Tobi Duncan

Electro-emo angst-pop trio Air Drawn Dagger have announced their debut album A Guide For Apparitions, due for release on 4th April via Long Branch Records. The band have also released their new single 'Apparitions', featuring Tobi Duncan from Trash Boat. The accompanying music video, directed by Aaran McKenzie (While She Sleeps), also features an appearance from Tobi Duncan.

The band comment:

"A return to big guitar riffs, it’s time to take accountability for the mess we’re in or accept our fate. On the other side of this song is an element of the hurt, and sometimes anger, you feel once you realise you’ve outgrown areas of your life and belief systems you held onto for so long. Relish in letting go of what no longer serves you, they’ll have to cross realms if they want to reach you. Featuring Tobi from Trash Boat, we knew this breakdown was the heaviest point of the album, the fight scene, the crescendo; and required an extra element to complete this track.”

Air Drawn Dagger invite you on a spellbinding journey with A Guide For Apparitions, fusing macabre mysticism with multi-genre-infused rock. Produced by Neil Kennedy (CreeperBoston Manor), each track pulls listeners through haunted tales and cosmic chaos, conjuring imagery from Witch Trials to ghost lore.

The band on their debut album:

"A Guide For Apparitions brings multiple meanings. The record can be a Grimoire if you're being haunted, or a guide if you are the one confined to a realm you don't belong."

Air Drawn Dagger blend raw emotion and defiance into a sound that defies genre. Their name, taken from Macbeth, symbolises the chaos and emotional outbursts that fuel their music. BBC Introducing championed their early releases, and they soon found themselves on major playlists such as Pop Punk Generation, Emo Anthems, and All New Rock.

Air Drawn Dagger’s momentum is undeniable. They’ve sold out their own headline shows and played packed-out UK dates with Millie Manders. Recent shows with Lake Malice, Dream State, and AVIVIA saw more back-to-back sellouts along with curating their own stage at the Tramlines Festival Fringe. With over 250,000 views on the music video for their single ‘You Should Have Known Better’, which also featured on the Kerrang! Chart, and multiple tracks premiering on BBC Introducing, the band’s cult-like following continues to grow.

Following their sold-out show at The Leadmill last year, featuring a choir of ghosts, confetti, and a human sacrifice, Air Drawn Dagger have also announced their biggest show to date at Corporation, in their hometown of Sheffield.

With all this, and more to come, 2025 is set to be The Year of the Dagger.

Live dates:
Apr 05: Sheffield Corporation
Jul 04-06: Manchester RADAR Festival

Multinational blues-rock institution Ellis Mano Band streams new single 'Virtually Love'

Multinational blues-rock institution Ellis Mano Band have released their new single / video 'Virtually Love', taken from their new album MORPH, set for release on 21st February 2025 via SPV Recordings.

Watch the video for 'Virtually Love' ' here: https://youtu.be/gBmZxFZXdO8

Pre-order MORPH here: https://ellismanoband.lnk.to/morph

"‘Virtually Love’ was a ton of fun in the studio – we put a lot of energy into it, and it feels great to finally share the song with you," say the band. "We’re already excited to hopefully hear it on the radio soon, but we’re even more pumped to perform it live and get the crowd singing along! The song’s groove grabs everyone right away and humorously pokes fun at the idea of digital love – all wrapped up in a catchy, almost nostalgic 80s rock vibe. It’s a song that’s fun, makes you want to dance, and turns the digital madness into the perfect anthem."

With MORPH, the Ellis Mano Band present a multi-faceted, coherent opus. “It is more than just an album for us - it's our next big step, our musical diploma,“ say the band. With songs like the epic ‘Countdown To Nothing’ and the powerful anthem 'For All I Care,'  the band invite their listeners to join in on an intense journey through the evolution of our sound. MORPH represents change and growth – a transformation reflected in every track. Energized riffs meet unexpected, quiet moments, creating a listening experience full of tension and depth. The artwork by Canadian album design legend Hugh Syme (Rush, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi…) perfectly captures this essence and symbolizes the spirit of MORPH. "We are excited to share these new sonic worlds with our fans, both on record and live!”

With several top 2 rankings in the Swiss album charts and excellent reactions from critics, the Ellis Mano Band continue on their path and will keep on delivering music at its best - timeless and 100% handmade.

On the single, the band comment: "‘Stray’ is a song that speaks deeply from the heart – inspired by all the dogs that remain unwaveringly loyal despite disappointment and pain. Chris Ellis, our singer, who has adopted street dogs himself, wanted to tell the story of an animal that continually seeks love but is left alone time and again. ‘Stray’ shows what true, unconditional loyalty means and reminds us that everyone deserves a home. It’s a musical call to give these strays a second chance."

The video for the single was created in cooperation with VETO, the association of European animal welfare organisations. The non-profit limited company, which is committed to the welfare of shelter and street animals, provided the Ellis Mano Band with the film material used for the music clip.

The first public airing of Ellis Mano Band’s fourth album MORPH was performed during their support slot to rock legends Deep Purple, on their German tour in July 2024. The record features eleven tracks, including ‘For All I Care’, which was one of the highlights in their set supporting the British rock legends. Powerful and characterised by tempo changes, it is a contemporary, modernised homage to the essence of classic rock from the late 1960s to the end of the 1970s. A quiet acoustic interlude is thrown in for good measure. A definite nod to the unforgotten Old School. Compositional sophistication, variety and incredible playing are the hallmarks of the Anglo-American sound of the Ellis Mano Band. So it was only logical to engage a global great for the cover art. The cartridge with the broken tip and flowers growing in ist case was realised by Canadian album design legend Hugh Syme (Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Kiss, Rush and many more). The music is just as impressive. It shows how the Ellis Mano Band continue their development in line with the album title.

Legendary artwork designer Hugh Syme comments: "I have always been motivated and inspired to bring a compelling, and (usually) improbable visual solution to those album covers I create for bands whose music, composition, performance and production I truly respect. Such is the case with the Ellis Mano Band. Thank you to Thomas Hammerl for bringing us together! All the best with the launch of the new 'MORPH' album project."

Genre-bending legends earthtone9 celebrate 25th anniversary of ArcTanGent with special tour

Iconic British metal pioneers earthtone9 are set to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their groundbreaking album ArcTanGent with a special tour across the UK and Ireland this autumn, where they will perform the album in full.

Comments vocalist Karl Middleton“These 25th anniversary ArcTanGent shows are going to be truly special, and a real celebration. We’re going to play ArcTanGent in full on this tour. Every track. You’re gonna hear songs that have never been played live, and after this tour, will NEVER be played again. This is a 2025 only, never to be repeated thing. One chance to come party with us folks. Be there. X ”

In the late '90s, earthtone9 forged a bold new path in heavy music, blending raw aggression with atmospheric depth to create a sound that defied genre boundaries. They seamlessly fused metal, post-hardcore and progressive influences in a way that was both innovative and timeless, shaping the course of alternative music for years to come.

Released in 2000, ArcTanGent quickly became a landmark album, a deeply personal soundtrack for those seeking music that was as intense as it was introspective. With its powerful riffs, intricate structures and haunting melodies, it felt lightyears ahead of its time. The album didn’t just inspire bands; it ignited a movement. And in a tribute to its lasting impact, it even gave birth to a festival that continues to celebrate that legacy, uniting fans and bands alike who’ve been forever touched by the spirit of its sound.

Comments guitarist Owen Packard,"Looking back now it's clear that the ArcTanGent album was the zenith of our original incarnation of earthtone9. Four years of relentless writing, touring and just living together as a band, all coalesced into ten songs and a defining musical statement about who we were as a collective. We were really proud of that record. It came out exactly as we had hoped. And it dropped at a time in history (the early 2000's) that felt exciting, communal and bursting with possibility. It was a great time to be a band, and the celestial paths aligned to allow us to be a part of it."

25 years on, ArcTanGent remains as influential as ever. Revered by critics and cited repeatedly by bands across generations, it’s one of those albums that didn’t need commercial success to leave its mark. Instead, it struck a deep chord with anyone who values musical innovation and the courage to break new ground. Its impact is immeasurable, as it remains a key reference point for fans of progressive metal and post-hardcore, consistently held up as a defining record in the history of heavy music.

As earthtone9 mark this milestone, their legacy stands as a testament to the power of creative vision, artistic integrity and the unwavering belief that the best way to influence the future is to boldly forge a path all your own. Their influence on heavy music is undeniable and ArcTanGent remains a bold, defining moment in the evolution of the genre.

Adds guitarist/vocalist Joe Roberts, “Recording with producer Andy Sneap (Machine Head, Judas Priest, Amon Amarth, Dream Theater) was a whole new experience. With previous albums we were much less rehearsed, more free form and simply about the noise and soundscape. Andy recognised that this group of songs was different and needed a different approach. He wanted a more on point, precise performance with discipline. He worked us HARD, but the end result was soooo worth it. The sound he got for this record was incredible, and his input in defining that album was immeasurable.”

Join earthtone9 this autumn to witness the magic of ArcTanGent live, celebrating 25 years of innovation, boundary-pushing sound and a lasting legacy that continues to shape the future of heavy music.
